This experienced team examined the scope of what is required of a performer in contemporary opera, in both traditional and non-traditional forms. 

This workshop will focused on equipping participants with all the fundamental skills required for a successful operatic career which are often overlooked during academic studies. These include:  multitasking on stage, inconspicuously watching a conductor or prompt, picking up subtle cues from performance partners & navigating unexpected situations whilst still delivering a vocally and dramatically sound performance.

This course addressed one of the remaining taboo topics in opera – menopause. Adrianne Pieczonka leads an experienced & supportive all-female team who aim to minimise the impact of hormonal changes on a singer’s career. Any singers wanting to explore this topic were welcome to apply with no assumptions made that menopause is current or imminent!

The first step is often the hardest - so this workshop has been designed to help young singeArs find their way into the industry.  In addition to the full-time team, guest decision-makers and mentors will explore the possibilities, hurdles, pathways and opportunities presented to young singers.

One of the most common questions asked by singers is, "What should I do with my hands?" This final SLS course for 2023 examines that question and will offer some answers for all situations - auditions, recitals, and staged opera.
